CHAPLET OF THE HOLY FACE

The chaplet has for its object the honoring of the five senses of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of entreating God for the triumph of His Church.

The chaplet comes to us from Sister St. Pierre and is composed of a cross, thirty nine beads, six of which are large, and thirty three small. The thirty three small beads represent the thirty three years of the mortal life of our  Lord. The first thirty recall to mind the thirty years of His private life, and are divided into five decades of six with the intention of honoring the five senses, touch, hearing, sight, smell and taste of Jesus, which have their seat principally in His Holy Face, rendering homage to all the sufferings our Lord endured in His Face through each one of these senses. Each of these five decades of six beads is preceded by a large bead to honor each of the senses. The three small beads recall the public life of the Savior and honor the wounds of His adorable Face; the large bead preceding them has the same purpose. The chaplet is completed by a medal of the Holy Face.

To pray this chaplet start on the crucifix and recite this invocation:

"O God, incline unto my aid: O Lord, make haste to help me;" followed by the Glory Be.

On each large bead pray: "My Jesus, mercy!"

On each small bead recite: "Arise, O Lord, and let Your enemies be scattered, and let all that hate You flee from before Your Face."

Complete the chaplet by repeating the Glory Be seven times, honoring the seven words of Jesus upon the Cross, and the seven dolors of the Immaculate Virgin. On the medal pray:

"O God, our Protector, look on us, and cast Your eyes upon the Face of Your Christ."

Prayers of the Chaplet:

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
