BLESSINGS FOR HOLIDAYS

Never pay back one wrong with another, or an angry word with another one; instead, pay back with a blessing. That is what you are called to do, so that you inherit a blessing yourself. (1 Peter 3:9)

Special Prayer for Thanksgiving Day

V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.

R. Who made heaven and earth.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And also with you.

Let us pray.

O God, you have fulfilled our founding fathers’ faith in your divine providence by making and keeping us a land rich in the abundance of your creation. Freedom, justice and universal brotherhood are for us our precious heritage, but for countless men, in our midst and all over the world, they are still only a dream. May we be faithful in sharing this heritage with the living and transmit it to a people still unborn. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

All Souls’ Day and Memorial Day

V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.

R. Who made heaven and earth.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And also with you.

Let us pray.

Almighty and merciful God, remember our beloved dead, our family and friends, those who have laid down their lives in the service of our great country so that we may have and continue to esteem freedom, peace and happiness. Grant all of these your mercy and the light of your presence. May their deaths have not been in vain, but increase in all of us the desire and the will to work for justice and peace among all peoples and nations. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A New Year’s Blessing

R. Who made heaven and earth.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And also with you.

Let us pray.

All praise to you, Lord God, King of the universe: you have brought us to the beginning of a new year. Bless us and all that we do in your service, so that we may work for your honor and glory, and for the salvation of your people. Let us grow in love, patience and kindness and to maturity in Christ throughout this year. Father, we ask these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.   (top)
