DEATH PRAYERS

A beautiful collection of various OLD prayers for the Dead.

For a Deceased Pope

O God, by whose inscrutable appointment Thy servant (mention name) was numbered among the Chief Bishops: grant, we beseech Thee, that he, who was Vicar of Thine Only-begotten Son on earth, may receive a place among Thy holy Pontiffs who have entered into everlasting happiness. Amen.

For A Deceased Bishop or Priest

O God, who didst raise Thy servant (mention name) to the dignity of Bishop (Priest) in the Apostolic Priesthood: grant, we beseech Thee, that he may be forever united to the company of the same. Amen.

Another Prayer for a deceased Bishop

Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that the soul of Thy servant Bishop (mention name), which Thou hast taken from the toilsome conflict of this world, may have fellowship among Thy Saints. Amen.

For a Deceased Priest

O Lord, we pray Thee that the soul of Thy Priest, Thy servant (mention name), which, while he abode in this world, Thou didst adorn with sacred gifts, may ever rejoice in a glorious seat in heaven. Amen.

For a Man Deceased

O Lord, incline Thine ear unto the prayers whereby we humbly called upon Thee to show mercy unto the soul of Thy servant (mention name), which Thou hast commanded to depart out of this life; that it may please Thee to set him in a place of peace and light, and give him a part with Thy Saints. Amen.

For a Woman Deceased

Lord, we beseech Thee, in the tenderness of Thy great mercy, to have pity upon the soul of Thy handmaid (mention name); cleanse her from all defilements which have stained this mortal body, and give her inheritance in everlasting salvation. Amen.

For Deceased Parents

O God, who hast commanded us to honor our father and mother, look in the tenderness of Thy mercy upon the souls of my father and mother, and forgive them their sins, and grant unto me the joy of seeing them again in the glorious light of everlasting life. Amen.

For Deceased Brethren, Relations, and Benefactors

O God, the Bestower of forgiveness and the lover of human salvation: we beseech Thee of Thy tender love to grant that the brethren of our congregation, with their relations and benefactors who have passed out of this life, by the intercession of Blessed Mary ever Virgin, and all Thy Saints, may come to the fellowship of eternal bliss. Amen.

For a Deceased Friend

Help us, O God of our salvation, and at the prayers of Mary, the most Blessed Mother of God, ever Virgin, let the soul of Thy servant (mention name), have a place in the light of everlasting happiness. Amen.

For Benefactors

Have mercy, O Lord, we beseech Thee, upon the souls of all our departed benefactors, and in return for the benefits which they bestowed upon us on earth let them obtain an eternal reward in heaven. Amen.

For Those we are Bound to Pray For

Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord our God, that the souls of Thy servants and handmaidens, the commemoration of whom we keep with special reverence, and for whom we are hidden and are bound to pray, and the souls of all our benefactors, relations, and connections, and all the faithful, may rest in the bosom of Thy Saints; and hereafter, in the Resurrection from the dead, may please Thee in the land of the living. Amen.

For One Overtaken by Sudden Death

Almighty and merciful God, in whose hand is the lot of man, absolve the soul of Thy servant (mention name), we beseech Thee, from all sins; that although surprised by sudden death he may not lose the benefit of the repentance which he desired. Amen.

For Those who Repose in a Cemetery

O God, in whose tender mercy the souls of the faithful are at rest, of Thy favor give unto the souls of all Thy servants and handmaidens who here and everywhere sleep in Christ, pardon of sin; that they, being absolved from all guilt, may evermore rejoice with Thee. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.
