The
Little Office of Mary began as an office of the Common of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, which is found in the Roman Breviary and was used on the feasts of Mary.
In the Middle Ages the Little Office of Mary was considered a votive office.
Just as there existed a votive Mass for the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday, a
votive office for Mary also existed.
