For just as Christian communion among wayfarers brings us closer to Christ, so our companionship with the Saints joins us to Christ, from whom as from a Fountain and Head issues every grace and the very life of the people of God." Prayer to One's Guardian Angel Daily Protector throughout Life Dear Angel, in his goodness God gave you to me to guide, protect, and enlighten me, and to bring me back to the right way when I go astray. Encourage me when I am disheartened, and instruct me when I err in my judgment. Help me to become more Christ-like, and so some day to be accepted into the company of Angels and Saints in heaven. Amen. Prayer to St. Anthony of Padua Patron of Seekers of Lost Articles Dear St. Anthony, you are the patron of the poor and the helper of all who seek lost articles. Help me to find the object I have lost so that I will be able to make better use of the time that I will gain for God's greater honor and glory. Grant your gracious aid to all people who seek what they have lost, especially those who seek to regain God's grace. Amen. Prayer to St. Benedict Patron against Poisoning Admirable Saint and Doctor of Humility, you practiced what you taught, assiduously praying for God's glory and lovingly fulfilling all work for God and the benefit of all human beings. You know the many physical dangers that surround us today often caused or occasioned by human interventions. Guard us against poisoning of the body as well as of mind and soul, and thus be truly a "Blessed" one for us. Amen. Prayer to St. Blase Patron of Healthy Throats Dear Bishop and lover of souls, you willingly bore heavy crosses in faithful imitation of Jesus. Similarly, with Christ-like compassion you cured many sufferers. Then after undergoing horrible tortures you died as a martyr for Christ. Obtain a cure for these (mention request) ills if this is agreeable to God. Amen. Prayer to St. Catherine of Siena Patroness against Miscarriages Humble Virgin and Doctor of the Church, in thirty-three years you achieved great perfection and became the counselor of Popes. You know the temptations of mothers today as well as the dangers that await unborn infants. Intercede for me that I may avoid miscarriage and bring forth a healthy baby who will become a true child of God. Also pray for all mothers, that they may not resort to abortion but help bring a new life into the world. Amen. Prayer to St. Dymphna Patroness of the Mentally Ill O Virgin and heroic Martyr, we know very little about your origin, but many have learned to invoke you and several have claimed to have been helped. It is said that you remained faithful to your Divine Bridegroom to the end, resisting the lusts of your pagan father and preferring a martyr's death. Please intercede for this mental patient that he (she) may give glory to God. Amen. Prayer to St. Gerard Majella Patron of Expectant Mothers Dearest Redemptorist Saint, model Priest and Religious, compassionate toward suffering Mothers, intercede for this expectant Mother. Let her not be selfish like those who are willing to put an end to the life they bear within themselves. Instead let her remain ever conscious that she is privileged to be the instrument through whom God brings another life into the world. Encourage her for the good of her child and the glory of the Lord of Life. Amen. Prayer to St. John of God Patron of Patients and Nurses, Heart Patients Dear Convert, after a sinful life, through the power of God's holy Word you learned to love your fellow human beings. Self-sacrificing, you founded the Society of Hospital Brothers. No wonder the Church made you the patron of patients and nurses. That is why we confidently have recourse to you. Please give assistance to (mention request) and teach us to be kind like you. God, You filled St. John with the spirit of compassion. Grant that by practicing works of charity we may deserve to be numbered among the elect in Your Kingdom. Amen. Prayer to St. Jude Patron of Desperate Cases Dear Apostle and Martyr for Christ, you left us an Epistle in the New Testament. With good reason many invoke you when illness is at a desperate stage. We now recommend to your kindness (mention request) who is in a critical condition. May the cure of this patient increase his (her) faith and love for the Lord of Life, for the glory of our merciful God. Amen. Prayer to St. Lucy Patroness of the Blind Dear Sicilian Virgin and Martyr, whom the Church recalls in Eucharistic Prayer I, you valiantly rejected great promises and resisted several threats in remaining faithful to your beloved Lord. For centuries Christians have invoked you particularly when suffering from eye-trouble. So now we implore your assistance on behalf of (mention request). We also ask you to teach us to imitate you and to avoid spiritual blindness of any kind. Amen. Prayer to St. Peregrine Patron of Cancer Patients Dear Apostle of Emilia and member of the Order of Mary, you spread the Good News by your word and by your life witnessed to its truth. In union with Jesus Crucified, you endured excruciating sufferings so patiently as to be healed miraculously of cancer in the leg. If it is agreeable to God, obtain relief and cure for (mention request) and keep us all from the dread cancer of sin. Amen. Prayer to St. Rita of Cascia Patroness of Impossible Causes Dear Rita, model Wife and Widow, you yourself suffered in a long illness showing patience out of love for God. Teach us to pray as you did. Many invoke you for help, full of confidence in your intercession. Deign to come now to our aid for the relief and cure of (mention request). To God all things are possible; may this healing give glory to the Lord. Amen. Prayer to St. Roch Patron of Invalids Dear mendicant Pilgrim, you once took care of sufferers from the plague and were always ready to help others by kind service and fervent prayers. You yourself had no home and you died in a dungeon. No wonder countless invalids have confidently invoked your help. Please grant a cure to this patient and help us all become spiritually healthy. Amen. Prayer to St. Teresa of Avila Patron of Headache Sufferers Dear wonderful Saint, model of fidelity to vows, you gladly carried a heavy cross following in the steps of Christ who chose to be crucified for us. You realized that God like a merciful Father chastises those whom he loves, which to worldlings seems silly indeed. Grant to (mention request) relief from great pains if this is in line with God's plans. Amen. Prayer to St. Timothy Patron of Those with Stomach Disorders Dear Saint, well known for your gentleness, you were a most faithful disciple of St. Paul and like him traveled much to bring the Good News to all people. The Letters Paul wrote to you reveal your zeal and inspire us with confidence in you. You too were cast into prison and you too gave your life for Christ. So with confidence we dare to ask: please obtain relief for (mention request) if it be God's will. Amen. Prayer to St. Raphael Patron of Travelers Dear St. Raphael, your lovely name means "God heals." The Lord sent you to young Tobiah to guide him throughout a long journey. Upon his return you taught him how to cure his father's blindness. How natural, therefore, for Christians to pray for your powerful help for safe travel and a happy return. This is what we ask for ourselves as well as for all who are far from home. Amen. Prayer to St. Gertrude the Great St.
Gertrude the Great is invoked for souls in purgatory and for living
sinners. Our Lord told St. Gertrude that the following prayer would
release 1000 souls from purgatory each time it is said. The prayer
was extended to include living sinners as well. "Eternal Father,
I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union
with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in
Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church,
those in my own home and within my family. Amen." Prayer to St. Monica Patron of Mothers Exemplary Mother of the great Augustine, you perseveringly
pursued your wayward son not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to
heaven.
Intercede for all mothers in our day so that they may learn to draw their children to God. Teach them how to remain close to their children, even
the prodigal sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray. Amen. O glorious St. Monica, greatly challenged among mothers, I
feel
particularly attracted by you who gave such an enlightened example of
motherly love. Prayer to St. Isidore Almighty and eternal God who has created us in thine image and bade us to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful, especially in the divine person of Thy only-begotten Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee that through the intercession of Saint Isidore, bishop and doctor, during our journeys through the internet we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to Thee and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter. Father we ask you this, through Christ our Lord. Amen. Prayer of St. Francis de Sales For
Complete Trust in God Do not look
forward to the changes and chances of this life with fear. Rather, look to
them with full confidence that, as they arise, God to whom you belong will
in his love enable you to profit by them. He has guided you thus far in
life, do you but hold fast to his dear hand, and he will lead you safely
through all trials. Whenever you cannot stand, he will carry you lovingly
in his arms. Do not look
forward to what may happen tomorrow. The same eternal father who takes
care of you today will take care of you tomorrow, and every day of your
life, either he will shield you from suffering or he will give you
unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace then, and put aside all useless thoughts, all vain dreads and all anxious imaginations. Amen. Prayer
to St. Denis You are wisdom, uncreated and eternal, the supreme first cause, above all being, sovereign Godhead, sovereign goodness, watching unseen the God-inspired wisdom of Christian people. Raise us, we pray, that we may totally respond to the supreme, unknown, ultimate, and splendid height of your words, mysterious and inspired. There all God's secret matters lie covered and hidden under darkness both profound and brilliant, silent and wise. You make what is ultimate and beyond brightness secretly to shine in all that is most dark. In your way, ever unseen and intangible, you fill to the full with most beautiful splendor those souls who close their eyes that they may see. And
I, please, with love that goes on beyond mind to all that is beyond mind, Prayer
to St. Martin de Porres To you Saint Martin
de Porres we prayerfully lift up our hearts filled with serene confidence
and devotion. Mindful of your unbounded and helpful charity to all levels
of society and also of your meekness and humility of heart, we offer our
petitions to you. Pour out upon our families the precious gifts of your solicitous and generous intercession; show to the people of every race and every color the paths of unity and of justice; implore from our Father in heaven the coming of his kingdom, so that through mutual benevolence in God men may increase the fruits of grace and merit the rewards of eternal life. Amen. Prayer to St. Thomas Aquinas Patron of Catholic Schools O Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas, prince of theologians and model of philosophers, bright ornament of the Christian world and light of the Church: O heavenly patron of all Catholic schools, who didst learn wisdom without guile and dost communicate it without envy, intercede for us with the Son of God. Wisdom itself, that the Spirit of wisdom may descend upon us and enable us to understand clearly that which thou has taught and fulfill it by imitating thy deeds; to become partakers of that doctrine and virtue which caused thee to shine like the sun on earth; and at least to rejoice with thee forever in their most sweet fruits in Heaven, together praising the Divine Wisdom for all eternity. Amen. Prayer to St. Vincent Ferrer Patron of Builders O glorious apostle, and wonder-worker St. Vincent Ferrer, the new Angel of the Apocalypse and our protector, accept our humble prayer and bring down upon us the abundance of divine favors. By that charity which animated thy heart, obtain for us from the Father of all mercy the pardon of our sins, steadfastness in the faith, perseverance in good works; so that, living a fervent Christian life, we may deserve thy powerful patronage. Extend that patronage even to our bodies, and free them from infirmity. Preserve our fields from the damages of storm and hail, and keep off all misfortune. Thus favored by thee with blessings in soul and body, we shall ever be thy devout clients, and one day with thee praise God in heaven, world without end. Amen. Prayer to Blessed Imelda Patroness of First Communicants O Lord Jesus Christ, Who didst take into heaven the bless maiden Imelda, when Thou hadst wounded her with the burning love of charity and hadst fed her in a wondrous manner with the Immaculate Host; by her intercessions, make us approach the Holy Table with the same fervor of love, so that we may long to be dissolved, and may merit to be with Thee, Who livest and reignest forever. Amen. Prayer to St. Albert the Great Patron of Scientists O St. Albert, who didst have recourse in all thy studies to Mary, the Mother of Incarnate Wisdom, obtain for us a true devotion to the Holy Mother of God, Beseech her to teach us the Science of the Saints. Beg her to plead with her Divine Son that the light of His truth may always shine in our souls and that the love of His Spirit may always burn in our hearts. Amen. Prayer to St. Rose of Lima Patron of Latin American and the Phillipines O St. Rose, first flower of sanctity in the New World, let the fragrance of thy virtues diffuse itself in our lives. Grant that we may imitate thy holy purity; obtain for us courageous in the practice of penance. Teach us, O St. Rose, to love Christ Crucified and Mary His Mother. Beseech Thy Divine Spouse, to bless all the Americas, which give thanks for thy glory to him, the Giver of all good gifts. Amen. Prayer to St. Anne Mother of the Mother of God O God, Who hast exalted to the joys of heavenly life, the blessed Anne, mother of Thy Mother; grant, we beseech Thee, that we may reach eternal happiness by the glorious merits of her, from whose offspring Thou didst deign to assume man's nature for the salvation of the world. Amen. Prayer to St. Dominic O renowned champion of the faith of Christ, most holy father, St. Dominic, look down from thy throne of glory where thou enjoyest the reward of all thy labors, upon me thy poor unworthy child. I praise and thank God for the exalted degree of sanctity to which He has raised thee, and the special privileges by which He has distinguished thee; and I conjure thee by that gratitude with which thou shalt for all eternity be penetrated toward thy divine Benefactor, to root out of my heart whatever is not agreeable in His sight, especially that evil habit by which I most frequently offend Him. O glorious Mother of God, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, who didst love Dominic with the affection of a mother, and wert most tenderly loved and honored by him, vouchsafe to look upon me for his sake with an eye of pity; deign to join with him in presenting my petitions to thy most blessed Son, Jesus, Whom I sincerely desire from this moment to love with all my heart, and to serve with all my strength. Mother of my Redeemer, I place myself now under thy powerful protection, as a certain means of obtaining all necessary grace here and eternal happiness hereafter. Amen.
