God Himself teaches us, How to Pray

The First Book of Psalms

Psalms 1-41

Psalm 41

Blessed is he that is concerned for the poor and needy; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.

2 The Lord keeps and preserves him, makes him happy in the land, and does not betray him to his enemies.

3 The Lord will comfort him on his sickbed, allays the malady when he is ill.

4 Once I said, Lord, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.

5 My enemies say evil of me: When will that one die and his name be forgotten?

6 When people come to visit me, they speak without sincerity. Their hearts store up malice; they leave and spread their vicious lies.

7 My enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst about me:

8 I have a deadly disease, they say; I will never rise from my sickbed.

9 Even the friend who I trusted, who shared my table, has scorned me.

10 But you, O Lord, have mercy and raise me up that I may repay them as they deserve.

11 By this I know you are pleased with me, that my enemy does not triumph over me.

12 In my innocence you have supported me and let me stand in your presence forever.

13 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, world without end. Amen.
