The Beginning
IN THE beginning, God made the heavens and the earth. Genesis I, 1
God first made the Heaven which we know as the home of angels and saints. Later, He made the earth and the star-spangled reaches of space which we sometimes call the heavens. Where is Heaven, and what is it like! God has not told us where Heaven is. It may be beyond all the stars, beyond space itself. How can we expect to understand all about God and Heaven, when we cannot understand very much about our own earth! No one really knows all about a blade of grass, and what makes it grow. We know that Heaven is a real place, not just a state of mind. There have been people who looked into Heaven, and came back to tell us about it. One of these was a holy man whom we call Saint Paul. He wrote:
"Eye has not seen nor ear heard, Nor has it entered into the heart of man, What things God has prepared for those who love him." 1st Corinthians 2, 9
Ever after that, Saint Paul longed to go back to Heaven and be with God. He spent all the rest of his life teaching other people to know God, and to know God, and so love Him and serve Him. He wanted everybody in the world to go that wonderful heaven.
Praise the Lord from the heavens praise him in the heights, Praise him, all you his angels, praise him, all you his hosts. Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars. Praise him, you highest heavens
Let them praise the name of the Lord, and your waters above the heavens. for he commanded and they were created.
