St. John |
THE HOLY BIBLE is God's own book. It is the greatest book in the
world. You may have read many other books. Perhaps some were fairy
stories, some were funny stories, and others were adventure
stories. These were all made up by someone. They were not true.
The Bible is different, for it is all true. The Bible is made up
of many smaller books. They were written by different men at
different times. These books were gathered, and kept, and put
together for us by God's Holy Church. God Himself told the holy
men to write the books of the Bible. He showed them what He wanted
them to write, and He helped them while they were writing. He kept
them from making mistakes. They wrote down only what God wanted
them to write, These holy books of the Bible are God's letters to
us, His children. The most important part of the Bible is in the
Gospels. Here we learn that God's own Son, Our Lord Jesus
Christ, came from Heaven to live in our world with us. We learn
how He died to save us, because He loves us. Before we begin
reading the Bible we should always say a prayer, so that God will
speak to our hearts. The Bible should not be left lying around
carelessly, It should not be put on a shelf with other kinds of
books. It should be kept in a place of honor, by itself.
